SUMMARY:A “deep” thinking around Minimum Energy Performance Standards
DESCRIPTION:The first in a series of webinars entitled “Future-proof EPBD: let’s deliver beyond the Renovation Wave!”\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout this Event\n\n\nIn the context of the ongoing public consultation on the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD)\, we are hosting a series of three webinars focusing on different aspects of the EPBD which have the potential to considerably increase energy renovation rates in the EU. The series\, entitled “Future-proof EPBD: let’s deliver beyond the Renovation Wave!”\, will feature conversations around the development of Minimum Energy Performance Standards (MEPS)\, the update of Energy Performance Certificates and other buildings information tools such as the Digital Building Logbook and Smart Readiness Indicator as a way to boost digitalisation of our buildings while improving their data. \nThis first webinar will explore the introduction of MEPS\, their regulatory nature and how these policy instruments fit into the EPBD ‘architecture’ (i.e. alignment with the EU climate goals\, linkages with long-term renovation strategies\, etc.). We will also look at which embedded elements could support their rapid roll-out and help ensure higher and deeper renovation rates for buildings in the EU. \nDraft Agenda: \n10:00 | Opening remarks and guidance to participants – Adrian JOYCE\, EuroACE \n10:10 | Introducing MEPS via the EPBD: where to start? – Jonathan VOLT\, Buildings Performance Institute Europe (BPIE) \n10:20 | How to design and implement MEPS? A deep dive into best practices and examples – Louise SUNDERLAND\, Regulatory Assistance Project (RAP) \n10:30 | OSS as embedded framework to support MEPS: the ORFEE model – Françoise REFABERT\, ORFEE \n10:40 | Q&A Session moderated by: Adrian JOYCE\, EuroACE \n11:05 | Conclusions – Adrian JOYCE\, EuroACE

SUMMARY:One-stop-shops for the residential sector
DESCRIPTION:This webinar is the first in the ‘Achieving the 2030 Climate Goals’ series\, and will explore innovative business models of European one-stop-shops as a means of increasing renovation uptake in the residential sector\, and decreasing carbon emissions related to buildings.\nThe building sector is responsible for more than one third of the European Union’s carbon emissions\, yet only 1% of buildings undergo energy efficiency renovations per year\, with the deep renovation rate being at a staggering 0.2%. As such\, renovation activity needs to increase considerably to put the sector on track for meeting the region’s 2030 climate goals. Join us as BPIE and GNE Finance address this issue and propose immediate actions to be taken within a European residential context. Innovative business models used among Spanish\, French\, and Irish one-stop-shops will be presented in connection with the Turnkey Retrofit and EuroPACE projects\, while the possibility of their replication in other EU communities will be discussed. \nThe European Commission and the EIB have issued a call for the creation of one-stop-shops to provide tailored energy efficiency renovation advice and financing solutions to homeowners to encourage the Renovation Wave. As such\, the results of benchmarking studies related to leading one-stop-shops and lessons-learnt from the Turnkey Retrofit project will be discussed and will provide useful insights into the Renovation Wave strategy. \nWho should attend and why? \nCities\, regions\, energy agencies\, and other stakeholders setting up residential renovation programs within Europe are welcome to join. \nLearn more about achieving our collective climate goals by increasing the renovation rate in a sector that presents great opportunities for reducing energy-related emissions. \nAgenda \n\n\n15:00 – Welcome and Introduction by Mara Oprea\, Business Analyst at GNE Finance (Moderator)\n15:05 – Case Study: Turnkey Retrofit Project presented by Jonathan Volt\, Project Manager at BPIE\n15:20 – Case Study: OSS model presented by Hugo Vigneron\, President at OPERENE\n15:35 – Case Study: HolaDomus presented by Kristina Klimovich\, Head of Advisory and Consulting at GNE Finance\n15:50 – Q&A and Conclusion

SUMMARY:Minimum energy performance standards for existing buildings
DESCRIPTION:Workshops series in preparation of the revision of the EPBD \nWorkshop 2: Minimum energy performance standards for existing buildings \nAs announced in the European Green Deal\, the Commission adopted on 14 October 2020 a strategic Communication “Renovation Wave for Europe – greening our buildings\, creating jobs\, improving lives”. It contains an action plan with specific regulatory\, financing and enabling measures for the years to come and pursues the aim to at least double the annual energy renovation rate of buildings by 2030 and to foster deep renovations. This goal requires a revision of the relevant EU legal act\, the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive 2010/31/EU (EPBD). The revision will focus on provisions that are central to boosting building renovation. \nThe Commission gathered the public’s view on the Inception Impact Assessment of the EPBD (22 February – 22 March) and will shortly launch a public consultation on the revision of the directive.  In addition\, we are organising a series of 5 workshops aiming to obtain stakeholders input to the preparation of the revision. \nThis is the second of the workshops and it will focus on minimum energy performance standards for existing buildings. The draft agenda will follow shortly. \nFor more information or to register\, please contact the project team representative.

SUMMARY:Energy efficiency trends in buildings
DESCRIPTION:Energy efficiency trends in buildings\n\nWhat has been the overall trend in final energy consumption of buildings in the EU since 2010?\nWhat are the main drivers of the energy consumption variation\, and in particular energy savings\, for residential and service buildings?\n\nThese are the key questions answered during this (11th) webinar in the Odyssee-Mure on Energy Efficiency Academy. \nJoin the speakers and learn about the outcomes of their research: \n\nThe energy consumption of buildings has steadily decreased since 2010 despite GDP growth.\nThere are large disparities in building performances across countries.\nSince 2015\, the rate of household energy efficiency improvements has dropped by 50% (compared to 2000-2014).\nEnergy efficiency of large electrical appliances\, which has largely improved in the past\, does not counterbalance anymore the rapid growth of the consumption of small appliances.

SUMMARY:iBRoad project final conference
DESCRIPTION:iBRoad project final conference:\nThe EU Renovation Wave aims to double the EU annual energy renovation rate by 2030 to cut emissions\, boost economic recovery and reduce energy poverty. It is a much needed and ambitious initiative\, and its implementation calls for accordingly powerful tools and policies\, including Building Renovation Passports & Digital Building Logbooks\, and a ‘deep renovation’ standard as part of the revision of the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD). \niBRoad\, funded by Horizon 2020\, has successfully delivered and tested Building Renovation Passports and Logbooks for deep renovation. iBRoad has teamed up with several initiatives working on or using such tools and methods. iBRoad’s final conference will provide participants with the opportunity to review and discuss: \n\nThe relation of Building Renovation Passports and Digital Building Logbooks with Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs)\nThe past\, present and promising future of these tools\nWhy public authorities would choose to adopt them and why citizens would want them\nWhat policies can turn Building Renovation Passports into catalysts for investments in renovation\n\nThe conference aims to contribute to the dialogue ahead of the EPBD revision by demonstrating the immediate potential of tested solutions\, and by highlighting best practices for delivering a decarbonised and healthy building stock to the EU and beyond. \nThis conference is open to anyone interested in the future of building renovations in Europe. \nStefan Thomas\, from Wuppertal Institute and coordinator of the QualDeEPC project will be a panellist at the iBRoad final conference.

SUMMARY:B-LOG Final Stakeholder Meeting
DESCRIPTION:B-LOG Final Stakeholder Meeting:\nN° EASME/2019/OP/0007\, entitled STUDY ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF AN EU FRAMEWORK FOR BUILDINGS’ DIGITAL LOGBOOK (“B-LOG”)\, running from 13 December 2019 to 12 December 2020. \nA digital building logbook is a common repository for all relevant building data. It facilitates transparency\, trust\, informed decision making and information sharing within the construction sector\, among building owners and occupants\, financial institutions\, and public authorities. A digital building logbook is a dynamic tool that allows a variety of data\, information\, and documents to be recorded\, accessed\, enriched\, and organised under specific categories. The role and potential of Digital Building Logbooks as common repositories of all building data was confirmed in the Renovation Wave and the Circular Economy Action Plan of the European Commission. \nAs part of the study\, the project objectives are to create a European-wide definition and concept for digital building logbooks\, carry out an overview of relevant initiatives\, conduct a gap analysis and produce key recommendations for implementation. \nAmong them\, the following are already available online: \n\nDefinition of the Digital Building Logbook\nBuilding Logbook State of Play – A report which offers an overview\, comparative analysis\, and assessment of existing European initiatives.\n\nAs the study approaches its end\, this final stakeholder meeting is meant to provide a venue for discussion of the study findings and of the recommendations for the European Commission to further encourage and spread the use of digital building logbooks. \nStakeholder consultations have been a key component of the study. All findings rely to the opinions expressed by over 120 stakeholders that were consulted through a combination of interviews\, surveys\, and workshops. This is the last of three stakeholder meetings\, including a webinar in March and stakeholder meeting in July 2020.

SUMMARY:The Renovation Wave for buildings: how to make the most of it?
DESCRIPTION:The Renovation Wave for buildings: how to make the most of it?:\nOn 14 October\, the European Commission\, as part of the Green Deal\, published its proposal for the Renovation Wave Strategy for public and private buildings. It is especially targeted at improving energy efficiency in buildings\, including minimum energy performance standards for existing buildings. Buildings account for 40% of consumed energy and 36% of greenhouse gas emissions in the EU. More than 75% of the EU building stock is energy-inefficient. Thus renovating buildings can be a key contributor towards climate neutrality. \nHowever\, the potential of the renovation wave is even greater. This is an opportunity to ensure European buildings do not just help to address energy efficiency\, but are also adapted to climate change\, contribute to better indoor air quality\, enhance people’s well-being and help meet the needs of vulnerable populations. If done well\, renovation projects can contribute to energy security\, job creation\, lower bills for end-consumers and enhance smarter use of resources. \nThis online Policy Dialogue will discuss the state of the European building stock\, and how the Renovation Wave Strategy can help support climate action while also bringing economic and societal benefits in the post-COVID-19 green recovery.

SUMMARY:Sustainable Places 2020 | Workshops on Deep Renovation 2.0 and Energy Efficient Renovation
DESCRIPTION:Deep renovation Joint Workshop 2.0:\n“P2Endure Deep Renovation Joint Workshop 2.0” aims at bringing together stakeholders representing key decision makers and implementers in the field of deep renovation of buildings\, along with retrofitting solutions users\, and developers for an array of interactive poster sessions and discussions\, and a unique hands-on showcase of innovative deep renovation of building solutions.\nThe objective of the workshop is to raise awareness on the most innovative building renovation and energy saving solutions and as well as to present and discuss altogether the main features of P2ENDURE e-Marketplace. \nParticipating projects: \nP2Endure\, EENSULATE and ENVISION \nChair of the workshop:\nMichelle Giordano (RINA Consulting) \nLink:\nhttps://www.sustainableplaces.eu/home/sp20-workshops-events/sp20-deep-renovation-joint-workshop-2-0/ \nDigitalisation tools for an energy efficient renovation:\nDigital transformation is slowly progressing in the European construction industry\, which means a huge gap between theoretical digital opportunities and the realities of on-site construction. Digitalization is the key challenge to support the renovation interventions since it may contribute to collaboration\, cost efficiency\, and time savings. At the same time\, it guarantees process quality along with all the renovation phases\, solving some of the hindrances due to the uncertainty of the process. \nParticularly\, the use of Building Models allows to store and share the information about the existing building through Building Information Modelling (BIM). This is a crucial point to avoid uncertainties since the models are fed and checked by all stakeholders. This workshop will bring together a selection of H2020 EU-funded projects involving experts from the AECOO industry to discuss a common strategy to pitch their progress and intermediate achievements\, moreover\, discuss the major technical and non- technical challenges they are currently facing. \nParticipating projects:\nSPHERE\, BIM4REN\, BIM4EEB\, BIM-SPEED\, DIGIPLACE\, BIMERR\, BIMzeED\, ENCORE and RenoZEB \nParticipating European Commission representative:\nDominique Planchon\, Senior Program Officer\, DG Research & Innovation \nChairs of the workshop:\nMohamed Elagiry (R2M solution) & Antoine Dugue (Nobatek INEF4) \nLink:\nhttps://www.sustainableplaces.eu/home/sp20-workshops-events/sp20-digitalization-tools-for-energy-efficient-renovation-workshop-2/
